Larson Residence
A small vacation home on a remote site in Gila, NM
A sustainable home with a small footprint.
The Larson Residence is a small vacation home on a remote site in Gila, New Mexico. The design layout optimizes the majestic views of the site while providing passive solar heat gain. The room layout was designed to give maximum privacy to each of the two bedrooms, but also give spacious feel to the living spaces. The wall construction, consisting of insulated concrete forms infilled with concrete, provides a high insulative "R" value. The pueblo style of architecture fits well with the surrounding austere landscape of rolling mesas with Juniper and Gramma grass. The interior color pallette , Kiva fireplace and mexican tilework compliment the Southwestern architecture. Acid stained concrete floors are throughout the house. In the winter, the floors act as a thermal mass heating the home from the passive solar design.
